App Functionality & Capabilities
Is there a mobile app?
Yes. For the best experience on mobile, I offer a native Android app. An iOS app is planned for development after the Android version is fully released. You can also install the web app as a PWA (Progressive Web App) on any device for a near-native experience.
Can I import my existing vocabulary list?
Yes. You can easily import vocabulary from an Anki deck, a LingQ export, or a custom word list. However, starting from scratch is also perfectly fine. You can grow your known words list organically as you read and watch.
How does EPUB import work?
The importer is designed to cleanly extract the text from your DRM-free EPUB files. The conversion happens locally in your browser and creates a new document in Markdown format. Please note that images from the original file are not imported.
Why doesn't Kimchi Reader recognize every single word?
The parser relies on a combination of comprehensive dictionaries and a growing list of supported grammar rules. While it's very powerful, it won't recognize every possible conjugation or slang term. This system is constantly being improved with each update to expand its vocabulary and accuracy.
Will more grammar patterns be supported in the future?
Absolutely. The grammar engine is one of the core features of the app and is always expanding. New patterns are added regularly, and every update is rigorously tested to ensure the parser becomes more robust over time.
Is sentence mining limited to Anki for exporting?
Currently, yes. Anki is the primary supported platform for flashcard exports. If you'd like to see support for other platforms, please share your suggestions on the Discord server. Popular requests will be strongly considered for future updates.
Pricing & Future Plans
Will you support languages other than Korean?
No. Kimchi Reader is exclusively dedicated to being the best possible learning toolset for Korean. This focus allows me to create deeper, more polished features than if I tried to support multiple languages.
Is the app interface available in other languages?

This is a popular request, and I've given it a lot of thought. As a solo developer, my top priority is providing a high-quality and consistent experience. While dictionary definitions are available in multiple languages, translating the entire application interface (menus, settings, support articles) and providing customer support in those languages is not feasible right now.

To avoid a confusing, partially-translated experience and to ensure everyone gets the best support possible, the interface will remain in English for the foreseeable future.

Do you offer regional pricing?
No, there are no plans to introduce regional pricing at this time.
Is there a lifetime plan?
I do not offer a traditional lifetime plan. The 3-year subscription is the longest-term option available.
